BIG 'GAP' IN ETHICS: BOYCOTT GAP UNTIL THEY CEASE TRADING IN BLOOD GARMENTS!
Human Rights campaigners ACT NOW are calling upon activists to take part this weekend in the second phase of the Global Boycott campaign.
This phase aims to persuade firms to actually cease trading in Sri Lankan goods. The main target for the present will be the apparel company GAP Inc. GAP like to promote themselves as an ethical company that takes non-business issues into consideration when selling products.
Such issues however never go beyond a factory's doors i.e. as long as the factory's particular workers are treated 'fairly' the wider impact of their business is ignored. That the Government is likely to face War Crimes Trials, that 100,000 Tamils are still held against their will in concentration camps, that another 200,000 are still 'displaced' from their homes, that Tamils still go missing, that moderate members of the Sinhala majority are being attacked, is of little concern to 'ethical' GAP. If therefore they cannot see sense then we need to make them!
To help launch this campaign the US boycotters http://www.boycottsrilanka.com/ and Act Now http://www.act-now.info/Site/Boycott_Sri_Lanka.html are joining together for a Gobal Boycott on the 10th April (Saturday).
Initially we are covering key areas of the UK and will branch out with new materials over the following months.
