Dear Kanthaswamy,

In 2011 ordinary people in Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, Libya and across the Middle East and North Africa summoned up the courage to provide a demonstration of ‘people power’ such as the region had never seen before. And they sustained it – even as the full might of states and their repressive security forces were deployed against them.

On 12 February last year – the morning after Hosni Mubarak was forced to stand down in Egypt – we gathered in London to stand in solidarity with those peacefully demanding change, and in defiance against those trying to stop them. Next month, almost a year to the day, we’re returning to Trafalgar Square to show our continuing support for a human rights revolution across the region. Find out more and watch a video trailer for the event

Hear from our Director, Kate Allen, and human rights defenders who have been at the forefront of the struggle in Egypt, Syria, Libya and across the region. Take action to support protesters peacefully calling for an end to poverty, corruption, discrimination and repression, and demanding basic rights and freedoms for all.

If you are under 16 and planning to attend this event please inform your parent/guardian and get their permission first.

Spread the word

This has been an historic, tumultuous year, one which saw so much suffering and sadness but also spread so much hope within the region and beyond.

We’ll continue to stand in solidarity with the people on the streets of Cairo, Benghazi, Sana’a, Manama, Dera’a and elsewhere who were truly ‘on the frontline’ in defiantly demanding genuine change. Our campaigning is dedicated to them, their suffering and their momentous achievements.

I hope to see you in London on Saturday 11 February.
