Re:United Nations Human Rightds Day December 10, 2011 – Organozedby the Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’s of Ajax


On an invitation from the Baha’s community of Ajax to commemmorate December 10th 2011 United Nations Human Rights Day I represented the Tamil Canadian Elders for Human Rights.

The meeting started at 10.00 am with a prayer followed by speeches from several community members focusing on human rights violation towards women, Aboriginal people and elsewere in the world in general. The most touching speech was from one young lady Madam. Mariatu Kamara from Mariatu Foundation

Sierra Leone. She explained in detail how her both hands were cut iof during the civil war in her country and her sufferings and how she managed to reach Canada .Her speech was so touching some people shed tears, During the break I had an opportunity to talk to her. I explained her our problem back home and haned over her a CD Sri Lankas Killing Fields Documentary. She promissed that she will take this message to her community and others.

I also met few other Religious leaders amd spoke to them about our problem back home and handed few CDs. To name a few

1. Mr. Mohammad E. Rahim – President of Pickering Islamic Centre

2. Mr. Vaqar Raees – President Friends Indeed

After some fantastic music and songs on Human Rights the morinng session conculded at 12.30

The Afternoon Session started at 12.45. Mr. Chris Alexander [The Guest Speaker] MP Ajax/Pickering and Vice Chair, All-Party Parliamentary Group against Genocide and other Crimes against humanity gave a very long speech on Human rights policy of Canada. After few musical progarams the afternoon session concluded at 2.00 pm.

After the meeing I met Mr. Chris Alexander and thanked him for his concern towards our problem, He told that Canada is moving in the correct direction in our problem and said more action to follow bring justice to the Tamils.

I met the lady Madam Barbara Catto – the formner President of Durham Area President of Amnesty Internation she told me to contact the present Aharon Zubrigg as he was not present I could not talk to him/her. Once I contct him I will inform you so that we can meet him.

I also like to remind you that we must all work hard and send messages about our problem to variours human rights organizations, UN, Our Mps,

HRW, AI Crisis Group, & others. Thank You
