"SELF DETERMINATION IS KEY TO THE WORLD PEACE"

Dec 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka is not in a hurry to make the report of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) and the report will be presented in the parliament after the President carefully reviews it, a government minister said today.
Addressing the weekly cabinet briefing in Colombo today, Media Minister and Cabinet spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said today the LLRC compiled its report to serve the domestic requirement and not to appease the foreign elements.
Responding to the demand by some quarters to make the report public, the Minister said it is unacceptable that they want to rush it and pointed out that the US took five years to make the 9/11 report public.
The Minister remarked that LLRC should be admired for taking less time to compile the report of a war that was fought for 30 years. The government has also resettled nearly 300,000 displaced persons within 30 months and completed nearly 70 percent of demining.
He said the President is studying the report closely and it would be presented in parliament at the appropriate time.
President Rajapaksa appointed the LLRC in May 2010 to probe the last seven years of the conflict and recommend measures to reconcile the communities affected by the war and prevent recurrence of conflicts in the future in order to bring lasting peace to the country.
