Act Now team has been very busy behind the scenes so we would like to share with you some of our experiences.

When we launched our ‘Stop Fox’ and ‘Stop backing Sr Lanka’ campaigns we hoped to embarrass the Government in the hope that they MIGHT minimise some of the damage the ‘Flying Doctor’ was or might be doing. Being the Defence Secretary meant that official (or unofficial?) weapons might end up in Colombo. We also knew that Sri Lanka always wheel out their link with Dr Fox to ‘prove’ that they are accepted in international circles regardless of the accusations of human rights abuses.

We were as surprised as delighted when we heard that he was to resign! We have had a few days of action in his constituency delivering leaflets and we know many of you send our e-mail to the Conservative party criticising Dr Fox’s actions.

http://www.channel4.com/news/liam-fox-is-gone-sri-lanka-s-lost-a-friend Thank you!

We will be turning our attention in due course to Geoffrey Orden MEP, who unbelievably, is even more open in his support for the Sri Lankan regime!

REFUGEES

We shall also be organising a campaign in the Home Secretary Teresa May’s constituency in Maidenhead to protest at the Government’s policy of sending back Tamil refugees to Sri Lanka to an uncertain fate. We have been working hard to explain to the authorities just how dangerous it is for these refugees to be sent back to Sri Lanka, especially those that have been involved with protests over here. Many cases have been personally handled by Act Now and we shall continue to offer our help whilst the danger persists. Watch this space!

WALK FOR PEACE & JUSTICE

A group of British Tamils, supported by the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) are walking all the way from Manchester to London to highlight their call to the British Government to act on Sri Lankan war crimes and help to end an ongoing genocide of Tamils in various forms in northern Sri Lanka.

Their walk has already started and will end in Downing Street, London on Monday November 07th. They are running stalls in all the major cities during the walk. It started with four volunteers with many more joining as part walkers along the route. Why not turn up to Downing Street from 6.00 pm next Monday to see them arrive?

Their specific demands are:

1) End Sri Lankan military rule and respect human rights in Tamil areas.

2) Bring those responsible for the Genocide of Tamils (especially in 2009) to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

3) Hold a UN referendum to allow Tamils to vote and decide upon their future governance.

4) Free the Tamils from Sri Lankan rulers and respect rights.

See their website at http://forjusticeandpeace.org/ for more details or contact the organiser Mr S. Yogalingam (TGTE MP and Act Now’s Assistant Director) on 07413 090515 sylingham@gmail.com
