Sri Lanka Government urged to reacquire privatized Institutions

    The Economic Analysts and Academics state that the Mahinda Chinthana and the Mahinda Chinthana – Vision for the Future policies strengthening the national economy can be sighted as an important policy that has changed the country’s economic path and strengthened the economy.

    They have commended the practical steps being taken to strengthen the Public Sector by the government, particularly in the economic sphere.

    These Analysts and Academics say that although privatization was a main economic policy some time ago, the United People’s Freedom Alliance government under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa has totally drifted from the privatization policy putting an end to this anti-national exercise.

    They commend the steps taken by the government to re-acquire and revive many institutions, privatized by the previous governments, as efficient public service institutions, and leaders of country’s economic growth. The National Airlines assigned to the Emirates Airways was reacquired and it has been transformed as the National Airline of Sri Lanka, increasing its fleet and destinations thereby making an enormous contribution to the tourist industry. The Lanka Gas Company sold to the Shell Company is now functioning as a State Institution under the name of Litro Gas much efficiently. After reacquiring of the main insurance institution, the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation has become the leader in the insurance field due to the correct policies and proper management by the government.

    The economic analysts also point out the need to transform many institutions privatized by the previous governments as people friendly public institutions by reacquiring them.(niz).
