Duminda could not be questioned as he was unconscious: Minister

By KELUM BANDARA AND YOHAN PERERA

Nov 12, 2011

Police could not record a statement from United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian Duminda Silva, who was injured in the October 8 Mulleriyawa shooting incident, because he was lying unconscious in hospital,” the government told parliament yesterday.

House Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva said Mr. Silva was rushed to the intensive care unit of the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital and was warded there till November 1. He was then flown abroad by his family members for further treatment. “During that time Mr. Silva was unconscious. His speech was incoherent. Therefore, police did not record a statement from him,” Mr. De Silva said when responding to a question by United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara who asked how a person alleged to have been involved in a killing was allowed to leave the country and that too with the help of the government.

He said Mr. Silva had not been identified as a suspect wanted in a court of law, and as such there was no reason why he could not leave the country for medical treatment. “According to humanitarian principles, any injured person should be allowed to seek medical treatment. Police have not identified him as a suspect. He is not an accused of any case so far. Therefore, we cannot prevent him being taken out of the country,” Mr. de Silva said.

To an allegation that Police Assistant Superintendent Samudrajeewa who was investigating the investigations into this shooting incident was suddenly transferred all of a sudden, Mr. De Silva said this police officer was transferred to fill a vacancy in the Mount Lavinia police division.

“ASP Samudrajeewa was not involved in the arrest of suspects in the assassination of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra,” he said. “ASP W.R.I.K. Karunakelage who worked at Mount Lavonia was transferred to Anuradhapura following various reports against him and Mr. Samudrajeewa was sent there to fill that vacancy.

The whole world knows who killed " lucky Aiyya". Mr President you cannot and wont be able to deceive the patriotic people nor the srilankan diaspora who supported you.

Resentment among the UPFA parlimentarians, The mighty armed forces as well as the people who voted for you.

Srilankans are no longer the dumbos of the 70s or 80s. May be our opposition politician and there party is bancrupt but not the people.

Never under estimate the people power with the modern communication?Justice should prevail and will prevail.

After the close shave with the<b>Commonwealth Games</b> thingy, I’m still hopeful that people in this country have a bit of luck left. Unfortunately, there’re too much stupid and nothing good will come of this chance given.

Kuddha

Stupid Mahinda recently said "no one can take law into their hands" but he forgot to add… Except to me and to my brother.. These Rajapaksa creatures shoud go home. They did the war that’s it. They cannot do anything else. The entire country knows Duminda killed Baratha. Barath’s driver testified he saw Kudu Duminda is shooting at Baratha. Was Badu Nimal was there to withnes the incident? How can he say Kuddha is innocent? What a shame… Wish we had the Prabahakana.

Until todday I thought that this guy is a worlld calibre figure who even got awarded from UNO. But the manner how he expresses things here – is not that from any average from Dakuna whose brains were maipulated by Local media by the current regime for their reasons.

Yes, it is true that he is trying defend the silvas- because both Mervin and Kudu street boy-Duminda are recorded crime doers while sitting on the side of the Mahadenamuttha whose time is being counted. Anyway, this buggers destroyed the lanken image- as no other leader of developing nations could .. We the lanken had good leaders until Rajapaskshe.. even Premadasa was not this worse when looking back although over 50000 went missing in the country during the brutal time – late 80ties. I wonder who would – quit the govt for these sorta of crimes – from UFTA- because they are the real politicos who really love the motherland. If these sorta case was the case in any western country, second day defence minister of the country is asked to reliable explanation. But our country – being reigned by thug and the company- everything has gone to the doggy era today.

Duminda was not a suspect they say, hence he is free to go anywhere!!!!!!!!what’s the big deal. No one made a complaint against Mervyn to the police they say for tying up a public servant to a tree, so you cannot arrest him either……………why can’t people understand this simple logic………..you simply cannot arrest these innocent government supporters

Ha ha ha…

Nice one Ramya, but I don’t think the subtle art of sarcasm really works in Sri Lanka. You have to beat logic into people with at two by two. I bet there’s going to be quite a few who’d be thinking you’re serious.

Nimal Siripala was a classmate of mine. Now he acts like a fool because of the post ,money etc: from the MR.There was 500% evidence of the murder that Duminda was he involved,He, atleast was there when thi was happend. So he should be questioned when doctors said that he started eating and walking. This is well planed murder by the big bosses. Why cant people go to street like Libiya,I am sure that Polis and Army will be there to support people.

Are you trying to convince sri lankans that duminda silva has nothing to do with this assasination. You are reassuring your stupidity Siripala. Another big looser "Silva"

I frankly don’t think the gov. has to convince the people of anything. They think they are so powerful that their actions need no explanation.

What you have here is just a demonstration of touting their power; "we say what ever we want and you better take it as the truth" kind of thing.
