Sri Lanka:

How can the Sri Lankan diaspora

in the UK help to build long-lasting

and inclusive peace?

Wednesday 23 November 2011

Committee Room 9

7-9pm

Chair: Rt Hon George Howarth MP

There are multiple opportunities to maximise the positive potentials of the Sri Lankan diaspora in contributing to a long lasting peace in the country. How can we support and promote these in light of the multiple challenges the country continues to face?

MPs recently accompanied a group of young British individuals of Sinhala and Tamil heritage to meet political leaders and community groups from across the Sri Lankan political and ethnic divide. As well as reporting on those meetings at this event, they will talk about their views of the future, and the positive contributions they believe UK parliamentarians can make to that future, both here and in Sri Lanka.

International Alert, Voices for Reconciliation and the APPG on Conflict Issues invite you to take part in a timely debate on the challenges and opportunities facing those living in the UK with Sri Lankan heritage, as Sri Lanka faces a time of rapid change.
