The Sri Lankan government, through the Consulate General of Sri Lanka, is organizing “Wonder Sri Lanka” Travel and Trade Show on October 16th and 17th, 2011 at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre to promote Sri Lankan Tourism and Trade in North America.

The Canadian Tamil Congress will join the Boycott Sri Lanka Rally in front of this Travel and Trade Show on Sunday October 16th and Sunday, October 17th, 2011 from 9 am to 5 pm.

For several years, especially the last few years, human rights organizations from all over the world have kept a close eye on the deploring situation in Sri Lanka. The Government of Sri Lanka has refused the repeated calls made by the international community for an international investigation into credible allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity. A country like Sri Lanka, with such a dismal Human Rights record should NOT be allowed to freely hold an event promoting travel and trade in a country like Canada.

In the face of both domestic c and international pressure, the Government of Sri Lanka has clearly refused to make a credible effort to seek accountability. To date, Sri Lanka has failed to address these concerns and shows no plans of doing so in the near future. In order for Sri Lanka to obtain sustainable reconciliation, it needs to first address these concerns before promoting any sort of travel and tourism on the island.

Lets unite in joining this Boycott Sri Lanka Rally in large numbers to send a strong message to the Sri Lankan government that they can’t run away from the truth.
