Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields


(WASHINGTON D.C.) – Thinking Beyond the Beltway and Amnesty International at Georgetown University invite you to a screening of the harrowing documentary “Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields” at 4.30 on Monday October 3rd in the ECR (ICC, 7th Floor). The film will be followed by a panel discussion.


About the film


First aired on British television in June, “Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields” captures, through live footage and extensive interviews with witnesses, the atrocities committed against civilians during the Sri Lankan Armed Forces’ final campaign to defeat the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in early 2009. 


The film was recently screened to wide acclaim at the United Nations in New York and Geneva, and has fueled renewed calls for an international response to these crimes.


About the speakers:


Valerie Richards Kirkpatrick – Senior Associate for DC Advocacy and Refugee Policy, Human Rights Watch Valerie is the Senior Associate for DC Advocacy and Refugee Policy within the Washington office of Human Rights Watch. In this capacity she is responsible for liaising with US government officials on all international Human Rights Watch issues that have a US policy component and serves as support for research and reporting on refugee abuses worldwide. Valerie previously served in the Peace Corps in Uzbekistan where she taught English and directed girls’ empowerment projects. While completing her masters she spent time researching and documenting conditions for Iraqi women living as refugees in Jordan. Valerie has a BA in international missions from Asbury College and an MA in Ethics, Peace and Global Affairs from American University.




Juliette Rousselot – International Advocacy Assistant, Amnesty International Juliette Rousselot is an International Advocacy staffer for the Science for Human Rights (SHR) program at Amnesty International USA. In this position, she provides general support to the programs work, especially as it relates to the crisis response work and to the international justice campaign. Ms. Rousselot also works with the Africa Advocacy Director with advocacy and lobbying activities on sub-Saharan Africa. She holds an MA in International Affairs from the George Washington University and is a native of France.
