Burma Human Rights Conference

Prosecuting Crimes against Humanity in Burma and the call for an International Commission of Inquiry

Conference Aims

LSBU Law Department works closely with Ko Aung, a Burmese human rights activist in the UK and one of the 1988 generation of student leaders. He is a Visiting Lecturer at LSBU and we support the meetings he organises for the Fighting Red Peacocks Human Rights network.

This conference on the theme of the call for a UN Commission of Inquiry into Crimes against Humanity in Burma is aimed at students, lawyers and Burma human rights activists. With the aid of leading lawyers, experts and activists the conference will discuss Crimes against Humanity in Burma, the call for a UN Commission of Inquiry, investigating and prosecuting International Crimes, the role of the International Criminal Court and Truth, Justice and Reconciliation in Burma.

The aim of the conference is to raise awareness of the issues and to disseminate best practice in gathering and preserving evidence of crimes against humanity through the groups associated with the Fighting Red Peacocks network.

The conference will be free but we ask participants to make donations to the organisations that the Fighting Red Peacocks support (Free Burma Rangers, Assistance Association for Political Prisoners in Burma, Karenni Student Development Programme). For more information about these groups and human rights in Burma see the Little Burmese Tea Shop – http://thelittleburmeseteashop.wordpress.com/the-menus-food/

The Tea Shop will be open at the Conference, so pop in for a cup of Tea and to find out more J
