More than 111,000 IDPs have been resettled in Jaffna, say the authorities

The Supreme Court in Sri Lanka has ordered the lawyer representing a Tamil party to submit a report on those who are yet to be resettled in high security zone (HSZ) in Jaffna.

The court made the order after the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) informed that at least 28,000 families are yet to be resettled in Palaly HSZ.

The court made the order as a petition filed by Mawai Senadhiraja, MP, and a group seeking the permission to resettle in the HSZ in Jaffna.

The counsel representing the state informed the court that 80% of resettlement if internally displaced people (IDPs) in Jaffna has been completed.

More than 111,000 IDPs have already been resettled in Jaffna, said the counsel.

But 28,000 families are still to be resettled in Palaly HSZ, the lawyer for the petitioners pointed out.

The hearing has been postponed until 12 December.
