Commonwealth Leaders Must Call For Justice in Sri Lan

Commonwealth Leaders Must Call For Justice in Sri Lanka

  • signatures: 385

  • signature goal: 1,000

The Government of Sri Lanka has consistently refused to acknowledge the grievances of minorities and has acted with impunity to block every attempt to establish an independent and credible investigation into allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

This October the Commonwealth Heads of Government will meet in Perth, Australia, to discuss issues of worldwide importance, including human rights. We believe the Heads of Government present should send a strong message to the Government of Sri Lanka that it must fulfil the obligations it has to its people, and ensure that justice and accountability are achieved.

Please sign our petition and add your voice to the calls for justice in Sri Lanka.

We, the undersigned, call on the heads of government attending this year’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to support, in full, the recommendations made in the report by the United Nations Panel of Experts on Sri Lanka, and to pass a resolution suspending Sri Lanka from the Councils of the Commonwealth until an independent and credible investigation takes place into the serious allegations of war crimes and human rights abuses committed during the final months of the war in Sri Lanka in 2009.

The SL is robbing Tamil Soverignity together with the natural resources (oil reserves) and inherited farming & development aptitudes & persiverance together with history, culture, language, religion and the social life and freedom while west only trumpets over Self Determination withoout understanding ‘democrasy’ does not mean & implicate the majority harassing the minorities by prevelant & introduceed demography. Tamil Eelam may not be East-Timore or Libya but should have has its own identity like Singapore, Hong Kong or Thaiwan etc by virtue of abilty & service deliveries by Tamils I could contribute my p/t dedication ad commitments to introduce & assist in formulating propositions and support service to TE development programs and to liaise and be active with GTF if being approached & fascilitated towards TE beyond Singapore/Hong-Kpng or Thaiwan etc.

I sincerely do hope the civilized people will press the international community including the UN for concrete action against war criminals and genocidal regime in Sri Lanka. When citizens of a country are not protected but hunted down by their own government, the U.N and specially US has an obligation to protect these people by invoking the R2P (Responsibility to Protect, the Global Citizens, a Canadian doctrine adopted by the UN in 2005) to save these global citizens who are facing extermination and genocide. It is imperative that unless Sri Lanka’s ‘war criminals’ are punished by the civilized world for their crimes against Humanity, the "Sri Lankan Model" would become a nightmare in the future for the world to comprehend.
