Prime Minister Of India

Dear Prime Minister,

Greetings from Tamils living in United Kingdom

Honourable Prime Minister, With due respect to you, I write this letter on behalf of Global Tamil Diaspora. Let me also, Just remind you that, there are over 60 Million Tamil Speaking people living in Tamil Nadu for whom you are the Prime Minister. All of them are demanding Justice. I am sure you are wise enough to see through problems without any prejudice or malice.

As we understand the Old India, to many people around the world was a Spiritual country. It had the grand infusion of Noble Values and Dharmic Principles as integral precept to good governance. Dharma was the pivotal Ideal, which influenced both Emperor Samrad Asoka and Emperor Akbar to create a compassionate world order. They understood the concord of Humanity. However, present India which boast as the World’s largest democratic state, having the sovereign power transferred by the people to exercise according to natural laws seems to have lost its direction?. Dharma and the Law of the nation faltering and many miscarriages of Justice have been meted out. Misuse of political position and its power has been seen as universal phenomenon?

The President of India, her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, had rejected recently the clemency petitions of Mr. Perarivalan, Mr. Murugan and Mr. Santhan, the three men who have been sentenced to death for alleged involvement in the assassination of Honourable Mr Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. The investigating officers then have been concocting false evidence against these three men. There have been many flawed evidence against them. Why has Jain Commission failed to conclude on its verdict? and so the case is unfinished? There are many more evidences appearing in credible media and the authority have ignored?

We are in no doubt that the death of the former Indian Prime Minister was a tragedy, not just for the family but for the entire Indian Nation.

Mahatma Gandhi once said that “an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind”. A magnanimous act of clemency would not only reflect the values of the Father of the Nation but also the inherent decency of India and its people.

Once again I wish to reiterate, there have been concerns raised regarding the investigation into Mr Gandhi’s assassination and the manner in which the trial of the accused was conducted. In light of this and the irrevocable nature of the death penalty, the Global Tamils calls upon the Indian President to reconsider her decision on M/s Perari-valan,  Murugan and  Santhan. We are sure you could assist her to do the right thing now, as the Tamil Nadu High court’s decision to postpone the execution date and Tamil Nadu assembly has unanimously wants the abolishment of Death Penalty. The right to life and the right not to be subjected to cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment are recognised in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights instruments. The death penalty violates these fundamental tenets of human rights law. Death penalty is a vestigial of the dark ages and a blot on modern civilisation. Therefore, leniency is begged for the accused. Such compassion would be welcomed warmly by many nations around the world.
