Despite reports from credible Human Rights organisations such as Amnesty and Human Rights Watch, that torture and disappearances are still rife in Sri Lanka, the UK Border Agency has chartered another flight on Wednesday 28th Sept to send over 100 failed asylum seekers back to Sri Lanka.

Some of those were associated with the Tamil Tiger rebels many of whom are still being detained without a fair trial or even access to a proper lawyer in detention camps and prisons, which not even the UN have access to. Even after there has been so much credible evidence of atrocities committed by the Sri Lankan Government, even after the UN Secretary General’s panel report was released which claimed that tens of thousands of innocent civilians were slaughtered at the end of the civil war in 2009 and that women were raped, that people were shot at point black range in the head and tortured, they are to be sent back.

Even after the PM David Cameron has said there must be an Independent International Investigation, even after the Home office has been advised by both Amnesty and Human rights Watch to not send the civilians back that no one should be sent that might be tortured, the Home Office still continue to disregard Human Rights and International Law which clearly states that no one should be sent back that might be at risk of tortured or becoming a political prisoner.

Act Now, has vowed to ensure that if anything happens to these civilians, which is very likely, that those responsible for sending them back will be held accountable. Act Now will ensure that everyone in Maidenhead in the Home Secretary’s constituency will be made aware that she violated international law, that she clearly doesn’t have any regard for Human Rights and most certainly has little or no compassion. We are more than sure that it will not help her with her voters.

Act Now’s director Graham Williamson said “we have recently been targeting Liam Fox in his constituency as he has very close ties with the Sri Lankan Government and despite the PM calling for an independent investigation, he still believes Sri Lanka should investigate itself. We have already planned a campaign in Maidenhead similar to the Lıam Fox’s campaign where we handed out thousands of leaflets in the town center and went door to door and collected hundred of petitions.”

After a meetıng between Tım Martın, a dırector of Act Now, and the Tamıl Lawyers Association UK, Act Now is now calling on all the Tamils in the UK to contact theır MP’s immediately regarding the deportation and requesting they take urgent action to stop a gross violation of Human Rights taking place. That they do everything they can in their power to pressure the Home Office to suspend the deportation and call on the government to re-think their strategy on sending failed Tamil Asylum seekers back.

Amnesty has warned that it is clearly not the right time that atrocities are still being committed and that it would clearly put many of these people in harms way. Please phone your MP today and send them a quick email requesting they act now before its too late. We have included a draft letter bellow. Click on link bellow to find your MP.

Draft Letter for MP:

Dear (Name of MP),

Despite reports from credible Human Rights organisations such as Amnesty and Human Rights Watch, that torture and disappearances are still rife in Sri Lanka and that those that were associated with the Tamil Tiger rebels are still being detained without a fair trial or even access to a proper lawyer in detention camps and prisons, which not even the UN have access to, the UK Border Agency has chartered another flight on Wednesday 28th Sept to send over 100 failed asylum seekers back to Sri Lanka.

Thıs ıs even after there has been so much credible evidence of the atrocities committed by the Sri Lankan Government, after the UN Secretary General panel report was released which claims that tens of thousands of innocent civilians were slaughtered at the end of the civil war in 2009 and that women were raped, that people were shot at point black range in the head and tortured.

I therefore request you take urgent action to stop a gross violation of Human Rights taking place. That you do everything you can in your power to pressure the Home Office to suspend the deportation and call on the government to re-think their strategy on sending failed Tamil Asylum seekers back. As Amnesty has warned, this ıs not the right time sınce atrocities are still being committed and that it would clearly put many of these people in harms way.

Yours Sincerely
