videotape sold by Ramawickrema: Shavendra Silva’s statement confirms

Believe it or not !– there is no original videotape on the war in National Rupavahini library

The Lanka e news reported earlier that the video footage telecast by channel 4 had been obtained from none other than a Govt. media personnel who was assigned to the battlefield to cover the war operations. Now, no less a person than Major General Shavendra Silva , the SL’s permanent representative to the UN has confirmed this via his statements.
His statements to the media yesterday clearly confirm this. He said, “ the pictures which depict that I gave orders 4 days prior to the conclusion of the war , on the 17th of April 2009 , the day on which the operation was launched to release the largest number of persons used as human shields by the LTTE and on which day lakhs of them were rescued from the LTTE control , were telecast over the Rupavahini ,ITN and Swarnavahini channels.”
If those videoed scenes were already telecast over the local channels in accordance with what he says , then the emblems of the SL TV channels should have been there . But in the reports and telecasts over the video 4 channel on the 27th of July , there are no such indications. If you carefully observe , it will be noticed in these pictures herein which are copies taken of them ,there are no such emblems. Not even a faint indication. What is there is only the channel 4 emblem. That means that they are the original copies in the possession of channel 4. At the bottom here are pictures of the scenes telecast by the Rapavahini channel on the day referred to by Shavendra Silva. The emblem of the channel is very visible.
Next is the most critical exposure which confirms our reports posted in our website on 23rd and 24th June , that these controversy ridden videotapes had been sold for colossal prices to foreigners by the Govt. media personnel who had Govt. ‘s permission to cover the war in progress. Though we did not reveal this media personnel’s name , Shavendra Silva himself had revealed it.
“It is channel 4 and these groups who indirectly slung mud at me and the State Rupavahini media personnel Ramawickrema who covered the war operations in the battlefield even imperiling his life . There is not much difference between the channel 4 and these individuals” (Shavendra’s reference ‘these individuals’ is to Lanka e news.)

The story which we disclosed without Ramawickrema’s name being mentioned had been fully accepted and unequivocally acknowledged by Shavendra Silva. In these circumstances, if the video footage was telecast by the State media and there is no emblem, then how did the original tape reach Channel 4 and get into their possession ? The Govt. barred the foreign media from going to the war zones and reporting on news relating to the war .How could the original of the video tape which was telecast at the same time from the same side over the State media be telecast by a foreign channel 4 ?
If a State media Institution of SL had not sold it , it is obvious to even the most feeble minded that it ought to have been sold by a State media personnel who went to cover the events.

Indeed as Shavendra stated, that perilous task of reporting on the war was undertaken by the State media personnel Ramawickrema of the State national television . What Shavendra failed to say was that the perilous task was performed for the most nefarious and selfish reasons by this media personnel.. Thus , it is Shavendra Silva who has himself confirmed the outrageous truths exposed by us in our media reports on the 23rd and 24th June.
When Ramawickrema was forwarding one report of what he had recorded in the cameras of Rupavahini and his camcorder to his Employer he had sold two of them to the foreign country. It was no less a person than Shavendra Silva who lent assistance to him in these sordid activities , and who is now speaking on behalf of Ramawickrema today. In order to boost his selfish megalomania and project his selfish image over and above the other Commanding chiefs using Ramawickrema , Shavendra had arranged a separate house for media personnel Ramawickrema during that period , while supplying whisky bottles aplenty daily for his drinking pleasure .
When the evil fallouts of these actions are coming to light , the burden of exposing these anti national and traitorous actions have to be shouldered by us. It is unfortunate that they are trying to fasten the label of ‘traitor’ to us who expose the stark truths . But of course we will not hesitate under any circumstance to expose not only the culprit mice but even the bandicoots who are parading as paragons of virtue . The Army Captain appointed by Shavendra himself to give assistance to Ramawickrema will furnish a wealth of stinking information on this subject, if he is contacted.
It was the satellite facility hired by TV Lanka owner Abeywardena which enabled the video taping of Ramawickrema to be conveyed to Colombo.. Ramawickrema via this facility ‘uplinked’ his report and the Rupavahini in Colombo ‘linked’ them. Ramawickrema had sold the ‘downlink’ secret password of the ‘uplink’ video taping of war information to foreign Organizations, international media Institutions , foreign spy networks and even to other Organizations unknown to us while he had been working for the Rupavahini Headquarters in Colombo. While the Rupavahini was doing the ‘down link’ in Colombo, many other countries abroad had also been able to do the ‘down link’. All the monies earned through these worst unscrupulous activities went into the account of the ‘Patriot’ Ramawickrema , the war reporter much extolled and pampered by Shavendra Silva. The latter’s eagerness to protect and propel Ramawickrema as a ‘ ‘patriot’ has aroused suspicions as to whether Shavendra ‘s account too has got filled with filthy lucre.
What we have revealed in the foregoing paragraphs is a story apart from that pertaining to the sale of DVD cassette by Ramawickrema on the Shavendra – Ramawickrema tour of Italy after the war ended.
While channel four is exposing the details on the one hand , Shavendra Silva on the other has wittingly or unwittingly ,only confirmed the truths revealed in the above paragraphs.
What is most intriguing and unbelievable is the unavailability of originals of videotapes in the library of the National Rupavahini covering the period of the war. We say this with full responsibility. What happened to them ? Is another shady deal being arranged ? No investigations. Mind you, they are still reckoned as the ‘indisputable patriots’ !
