"SELF DETERMINATION IS KEY TO THE WORLD PEACE"

Since the war has ended in May 2009 a mountain of evidence of war crimes has grown against the Sri Lankan government. Even before the end of Sri Lanka’s Civil War international observers began suggesting that War Crimes were being committed. Evidence of the indiscriminate bombardment of civilians, despite Government denials, was irrefutable as the ICRC were evacuating hundreds of civilians every day with serious injuries during the final stages of the war.
Unfortunately because the media were barred and all INGO’s had been removed from the area it was difficult to obtain independent eyewitness corroboration. The US have also released satellite images of evidence of Government shelling in civilian areas. Video evidence and testimony of executions of suspected yet unarmed rebels emerged in 2010 and the authenticity of the video’s have been verified by the UN.
Under international pressure the United Nations (UN) Secretary Ban Ki-moon created an Advisory Panel to investigate the ‘way forward’ on the issue of War Crimes.
The UN Advisory Panel’s report on the end of the violent conflict in Sri Lanka that took place nearly two years ago has opened the eyes of the world. Human rights organisations and the Tamils, via relatives, have long known that countless thousands of innocent civilians were massacred in the final months of the war in 2009. Many in the International Community (IC) steadfastly refused to accept that the Sri Lankan Government could be so brutal and merciless especially given their consistent denials. The UN Report however has begun to remove the scales from their eyes as Sri Lankan denials begin to look desperate.
The UN and the international community failed to act and protect the civilians from being massacred now they must bring those responsible for war crimes to justice. Please sign the global celebrity backed petition addressed to all of the present members of the Human Rights Council calling upon them to propose and pass a motion requesting the Security Council to initiate an investigation.
