TNA parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran says that the Rajapaksa government was subjecting many Tamil villages in the North and East to a Sinhalization process under the guise of providing solutions to the Tamils.

Sumanthiran cited an example to his statement saying that 165 Sinhala families have been settled in Kokkadivankulam Tamil village in Thenamadu, Vavuniya and that the name of the village has been changed to Kalabowa Wewa.

The renovation of the Kokkadivankulam tank had been assigned to the Vavuniya District Secretary and the Sinhala local government head of

Vavuniya South by the Economic Development Ministry last December. The land had then been prepared for cultivation and after preparing 200 acres of the land, the Tamil people in the area had been chased away and the lands have been given to 165 Sinhala families.

The Divisional Secretary of the Vavuniya South Sinhala Divisional area has issued temporary land deeds to the forcibly acquired land and Rs. 20 million had been given to renovate the road stretch between Kokkadivankulam and Mahakachchakodi.

It has also been said that the Settykulam Army Camp has taken over 1,500 acres of land. The parliamentarian said that a similar land grab has been reported from the Kanagarayakulam area and that the Army had requested to build a Buddha statue inside the Tamil College in Vavuniya.
