Sri Lanka’s government is seeking legal action against the British TV Channel 4, a spokesman said Thursday.

"We are currently seeking legal opinion on suing them", Keheliya Rambukwella, the government spokesman and minister of media said.

The Channel 4′s documentary "Killing Fields" aired in Britain showed pictures of alleged execution of Tamil Tiger rebels by Sri Lankan government soldiers.

The government maintains that they were fabricated and distortions of original footage which showed rebels executing soldiers.

"We cared for 300,000 Tamil civilians providing them with all facilities. Further 7,000 of them who were found carrying guns against the government were rehabilitated. So why would we kill six of them?" Rambukwella said.

Some Western countries and international rights organizations have called for an independent investigation on the visuals.

The government called the move as part of an international conspiracy against the island and accused them of being moved by the pro-rebel.
