Dr Vickramabahu said addressing the meeting

‘ I am glad to see the national song sung in Tamil in this conference. This is predominately a Tamil gathering; hence it is a right to do that.We must challenge Sinhala chauvinist at every point. They displayed their weakness when they attacked the TNA in Jaffna. We unitedly condemned it in Colombo. With the rise of working masses, the  government had to retreat. Hastily they promised 500Rs to plantation workers. But we cannot accept this . It is pro government unions and ministers, that have agreed to this sell out. The government by genocidal war internationalized the Tamil national problem. Now world over Tamils are campaigning for freedom and issue has been taken over by masses internationally. Tamils on this basis have got elected to parliaments in the west. Today, in this country there is a need of a new alliance to oppose the chauvinist militaristic regime of Mahinda. DPF and MANO has taken this giant step to bring us together in their conference. Let us go forward to establish a democratic rule in this country."
