The Romance of Sri Lanka, a new photography exhibit by Westporter Barbara Paul, will be shown at The Ridgefield Library from June 2 through June 29 in the Dayton Program Room.  All are invited to a festive opening reception on June 5th from 2-4PM.  The Sri Lankan Embassador to the UN will be in attendance at the reception.

From intriguing ancient cave sites filled with mysterious smiling Buddhas to iconic stilt fishermen along the coast and Tamil women picking tea high along the slopes of the cool green hills of the interior, Sri Lanka is infused with history and spirituality.  Worshippers offer flowers and chant at temples cared for by orange robed monks.  Dancers, wearing gorgeous traditional costumes, drum and sway at temple festivals, while firewalkers perform for crowds.  The photos in this exhibit offer a meaningful glimpse into the unique beauty and traditional culture which still prevail in this small and singularly appealing country.

Paul exhibits photos of people living in remote regions of Asia and Africa, featuring their ethnic dress, tribal and religious customs, festivals and daily way of life.  She tries to capture the spirit of the moment in each photograph.  She has exhibited at many venues in Fairfield County and New York. Her most recent exhibits include "Oman: The People" at Borders Bookstore in Fairfield, "Indonesia" at the Darien Library, "Mongolia" at Borders Bookstore in Fairfield and "The Samburu of Kenya" at The Norwalk Public Library.
