Subject: Fw: Sri Lanka – pause the deportations.

Mr Simon Hughes, MP, has been trying to pause the deportation(attached letter) but still the deportation went ahead last evening. Another chartered flight of failed Tamil asylum seekers is scheduled for 21 July:

”The deportation charter flight to Sri Lanka took off(from Gatwick) yesterday evening, 16 June, while deliberations were still underway at the High Court. It is understood that one deportee won their injunction, but not until after the flight was in the air.”

17 June 2011: Sri Lanka: Fears for Tamils deported from UK:

Twenty-six Sri Lankans deported by the UK have arrived back in Colombo on an overnight charter flight.

mnesty International and Human Rights Watch urged the UK not to deport Tamils to the country. Amnesty says it has "documented the endemic use of torture in Sri Lanka and a culture of impunity prevails".
