A WAR crimes film due to air on TV tonight is so horrific a top telly chief has warned people against watching it.

The documentary about the Sri Lankan civil war features footage of executions, massacre victims and the corpses of women who appear to have been raped.

Dorothy Byrne, head of Channel 4 news and current affairs, said: "I don’t urge you to watch this programme.

"It’s horrific. The images will remain in your mind. There are probably many adults who shouldn’t watch.

"I would definitely say pregnant women shouldn’t look at it. I would rather I’d never seen it."

But she said bosses decided to screen Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields to draw attention to war crimes by troops in 2009 in the fight against Tamil separatists. "The decision to show it at length was made only after serious and careful consideration." It will be screened at 11.05pm.

  • WATCHDOG Ofcom is braced for a flood of complaints today after BBC2 showed a man dying in a suicide clinic last night. It received 191 complaints before Choosing To Die was broadcast.

    Dear all

Dear bro chamara I have many tamil friends at work and also as family friends and they are great, and we get along together fine, and it is a common thing in sri lanka. This is even getting better now since the war is over.

What im worried about is why isnt the so called biased international community not talking about the people who were murdered by the LTTE???? where is justice !!.

What im trying to say here is  a few people from the Tamil diaspora who are living a luxury life in Europe are trying to kill there own kind again!. by fueling another war. I hope this Tamil diaspora can send there hard earned money to  there own people here so they can live a better life instead of spending it on publicity stunts like this video.

I worked on three construction projects in Sri Lanka in the 1980′s, the Victoria Dam near Kandy, Ratnapura New Town access roads and the State drive dual carriageway to parliament in Colombo. There was lots of civil war going on then, and we were often restricted in our travel movements. The whole situation was so sad, it is truly one of the nicest places I have visited, I found the people that worked for me, along with the general public to be so polite and respectful, my wife and two daughters accompanied me and share the same thought today. Whilst working on the Victoria Dam I was responsible for the explosives magazine, when collecting and handling explosives on that contract, I had to be guarded by the heavily armed police and army who never left our sight during blasting operations in the quarry and elsewhere. We had to barricade the new power station during the Xmas 1985 period in an attempt to stop the Tamil Tigers moving in. BTW, during the earlier part of dam construction Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford arrived and asked if the could film Temple of Doom downstream of the dam. If you watch the miles of credits at the end of the film you will see that we got a mention in the form of "Special thanks to ******* ****** ******" (see for yourself). I was offered futher work in Sri Lanka around 1990 but went to work in Dubai instead. Sri Lanka is a beautiful and interesting country, this programme should not be missed. Regards, John

    Hi all,

As far I know about the unrest situation in My motherland…. we all responsible for everything what have happened so far.

I dont want to blame the Tiger terrorist or our selfish government.

as Majority we have had power and wealth to treat the Tamils equally with generosity.

We failed to do what Siddh?rtha wants us to do.

rubbish politics seeds racism among us and lead us to hate each other.

I wish to let Tamiliney know that there are brothers and sisters like me knows what Tamils gone through last passed 25 years… they did suffered. I personally experience their life when i had a chance to visit as a journalist.

we never want to support LTTE terrorism and the same time the massacre which  our government  carried out on Tamils on that day.

I used to believe  LTTE is the only terrorist group  but i do accept the act of our government proved that they are not different.

i have never expected this from our Leaders of Lanka. Where is the humanity. I strongly believed we all well civilized people but we failed to prove in many places.

who ever responsible for the genocide and killings has to face the justice.

    and it should stop there.

No more war , no more blood.

    Brother Suminda and Perumal,

we should work hard to find peace in Lanka and make sure there is no more Prabaharan to be born again and no more Tamil blood in our Land.

the solution for our situation is in our hand.

"Love all as you love yourself."

The UN is refusing to protect us as Ban Ki Moon feel that it is up to the member states to make the decision – China, Russia and other countries which are well known for their atrocious Human Rights Abuses are supporting the Sri Lankan government.  If these are the true colors of the United Nations, then justice is dead.  The US government is being diplomatic – diplomacy is costing my kith and kin their blood.  If diplomacy is about letting a race bleed to death – then, please stop the diplomacy and save us.  The British government has been supportive, but we need more than words now.

The Holocaust, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Rwanda, Bosnia, Darfur, Sri Lanka….,  UN has never stopped genocide from taking place – do we really need the UN?  Ban Ki Moon (head of UN) has not done anything for the Tamils – by his sheer silence, he is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Tamils.  The Sri Lankan president maintains that the 2009 war was fought by his soldiers – and he claims that no bled was shed by the Tamils and his military held the UN charter in one hand whilst they were fighting.  That might be true as perhaps the UN charter has a silent agreement that it is okay to kill people quietly when the presence of the media and outsiders are absent.  The president’s brother, Gotabaya Rajapakse (head of the military) stated to BBC that the hospitals are a legitimate target and the places were repeatedly bombed.  Yes, he must have held the UN charter as well when they mercilessly bombed the Tamils.

Callum, thank you very much for this film.  You have been courageous in showing this video and thank you very much to channel 4 for airing this.  You have given the world a chance to save the Tamil race – to stop the slow and systematic genocide.

Now, it is up to the readers and the viewers, to the public to save us.  I, as a British Tamil person, am begging you to save my race.  You, as a member of the public, can help to save my race – the Tamils.  Please watch this
