Cricket Boycott gathers momentum – Oval 28th June!

The boycott pickets following the Sri Lankan cricket team are slowing catching the news, including national and local press (see samples at http://www.demotix.com/news/715268/tamils-call-boycott-sri-lankan-cricket-team & http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2011/jun/04/tamil-protest-lords-sri-lanka).

Well done to the TYO boys & girls for handing out hundreds and hundreds of flyer’s to cricket fans calling for a boycott of ALL things Sri Lankan.

As the FB Group Boycott Sri Lanka says:

Sri Lanka stands accused of war crimes by a UN Panel of Experts, yet the country’s national team is here in the UK playing cricket. Sport is not just a pastime. We cannot shout war crimes one minute and cheer for Sri Lankan cricket the next. Sport and politics are inseparable.

We urge you to turn up and show support at the next Picket which is on the 28th June at 12.00 noon outside the Oval cricket ground (nearest underground is the Oval – Northern line).

Boycott GAP time to turn on the heat on the 25th!

The recent electoral victory of the MDMK party under Ms. Jayalalitha in the Indian province of Tamil Nadu was partly on the basis of supporting the rights of Sri Lankan Tamils.

This week the Tamil Nadu State Assembly unanimously passed a resolution requesting the Indian government indict Sri Lanka for war crimes and crimes against humanity at the UN, and to work along with world countries to impose economic sanctions on Sri Lanka until Tamils in the island are rehabilitated and get equal rights.

The world is beginning to follow ACT NOW’s lead in accepting that boycotting is the only way we will get peace & justice for Tamils! We must do our bit by continuing to harass the so-called ‘ethical’ GAP clothing stores for ignoring human rights abuses by importing their garments on Saturday June 25th.

London Saturday 25th June: Covering a number of stores around Oxford Street from 12.00 pm (meet at GAP 50 yds to the right of Exit 7 of Oxford Circus tube). Please help us cover them all!!

If you can run a picket outside London in the future please contact us urgently on info.actnow@gmail.com so that we can supply you with leaflets. Check out your nearest GAP store (see http://gap.eu/stores/).

Have you signed the Global Petition?

Nearly 3,000 supporters have signed the celebrity backed petition to the UN Human Rights Council asking members to ask the Security Council to back an independent investigation on war crimes. We need more. Please sign online at http://www.act-now.info/Site1/War_Crimes_Appeal.html now!

Diarise and join us at the Saturday 12.00 pm pickets:

Global boycott of GAP on June 25th and Sri Lankan Cricket June 28th
