ACT NOW NEWS 60:

Boycott GAP this Saturday from 12.00 pm noon!

Boycott GAP: Are we serious about Sri Lanka?

The shocking Channel 4 documentary ‘Sri Lanka’s Killing fields’ will have woken up more of the UK, including politicians, to the appalling treatment of Tamils by Sri Lanka both in after the end of the war.

At least 800,000 viewers saw the documentary (which we contributed to) which C4 say they have plans to sell it on throughout the world including India (it is not expected to get a showing in Sri Lanka!).

Although activists call upon the International Community to support an independent investigation we believe that Sri Lanka will never willingly co-operate. The only pressure they respect is force and that means boycotts and sanctions until they agree to a genuine political settlement e.g. A UN supervised referendum for Eelam Tamils.

Whilst we ultimately need states to boycott Sri Lanka (and the Tamil Nadu Parliament has now called for one) we must show intent by kick-starting the process. If we don’t boycott Sri Lanka why should anyone else do it?

We must continue and increase our boycotting and YOU can join us outside GAP clothing stores selling Sri Lankan garments, this Saturday June 25th.

London Saturday 25th June: Covering a number of stores around Oxford Street from 12.00 pm (meet at GAP 50 yds to the right of Exit 7 of Oxford Circus tube). Please help us cover them all!!

If you can run a picket outside London in the future please contact us urgently on info.actnow@gmail.com so that we can supply you with leaflets. Check out your nearest GAP store (see http://gap.eu/stores/).

Cricket Boycott needs your help – Oval 28th June!

As a result of the C4 programme ex-England cricket captain Michael Atherton has talked about the England team withdrawing from their proposed winter tour of the Island see http://www.channel4.com/news/should-englands-cricketers-rethink-sri-lanka-tour. Everything we said that needs to happen is happening. What we need from you is:

a) your presence on boycott pickets b) the funds to pursue our strategy (see below).

If you are free a week Tuesday day turn up for the 2nd to last cricket picket outside the Oval ground on the 28th June at 12.00 noon outside the Oval cricket ground (nearest underground is the Oval – Northern line). Bring banners!

Have you signed the Global Petition?

Over 3,000 supporters have now signed the celebrity backed petition to the UN Human Rights Council asking members to ask the Security Council to back an independent investigation on war crimes. In October the HRC will debate this issue. We need as many as we can by then.

If you haven’t yet signed do so at http://www.act-now.info/Site1/War_Crimes_Appeal.html now!

Help us continue the struggle!

We don’t get funded by any Governments or NGO’s only by supporters. We need to continue and even increase our material. We need you to help us!

* We attach a S/O for you to print off and return to us. For just £10 a month you will help us keep up the boycotting pressure upon the IC and Sri Lanka to bring peace and justice to Tamils (If not attached please request one via info.actnow@gmail.com)
