Justice for Sri Lanka: No impunity for crimes against humanity
Amnesty International, Channel 4 and the Parliamentary Human Rights Group (PHRG) would like to invite you to join a panel discussion and screening of excerpts from Channel 4’s documentary Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields. The film is presented by Jon Snow and contains damning footage, filmed by both victims and perpetrators, which suggests that war crimes were committed during the Sri Lankan conflict that ended in May 2009.
Wednesday 22 June 2011
4.30pm – 6.00pm
IPU room, House of Commons
Introduction from Jon Snow – Channel 4 News
Panel
Chair: Jonathan Miller - Foreign Affairs Correspondent, Channel 4 News
Rt Hon Ann Clwyd MP – Chair PHRG
Alistair Burt MP – FCO Minister
Yolanda Foster – Sri Lanka Researcher, Amnesty International
Callum Macrae – Director ‘Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields’
In April 2011 the UN published a report calling for a thorough and independent investigation into alleged war crimes committed during the Sri Lankan conflict. Amnesty International has repeatedly called for an independent inquiry into alleged human rights abuses committed by both sides, and will be urging the UK government to support such an investigation.
