KEEP UP THE PRESSURE ON SRI LANKA!
As pressure mounts upon Sri Lanka to cooperate with the UN over accusations of war crimes, activists must now ‘turn the screw’ on both Sri Lanka and the International Community (IC) to obtain justice and a viable future for Tamils!
There will be a growing number of activities this summer for you to help.
Firstly, join the anti-GAP pickets throughout the UK this Saturday 28th May.
Prior to the release of the UN report, GAP were struggling to justify their involvement in Sri Lanka. It will be even harder now! Help us maintain the pressure by joining one of our pickets. You only have to give us an hour or so of your time?
If in London we shall be covering a number of stores around Oxford Street from 12.00 pm (meet at GAP 50 yds to the right of Exit 7 of Oxford Circus tube). Please help us cover them all!!
If you can run a picket outside London in the future please contact us urgently on info.actnow@gmail.com so that we can supply you with leaflets. Check out your nearest GAP store (see http://gap.eu/stores/).
Boycott Sri Lankan cricket!
Secondly, after the successful boycott demo of the Sri Lankan cricket team at their opening ‘warm-up’ match against a Middlesex county side there will be protests organised at all their games. The Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO) has organised coaches to go to Cardiff at the first Test and we shall be supporting a much larger protest outside Lords Cricket ground on Saturday 4th June. Every London and Home Counties Act Now supporter should make an effort to attend!
Demonstrators are to meet outside the Lord’s Cricket Ground, St John’s Wood, London NW8 8QN at 10.00 am on the 4th June. The nearest tube station is St. Johns Wood (Jubilee Line). BRING YOUR PLACARDS AND BANNERS!
Sign the Global Petition!
Thirdly, the petition to the UN Human Rights Council asking members to ask the Security Council to back an independent investigation on war crimes, launched at the Mullivaikal Remembrance on May 18th and supported by a number of celebrities such as international model Deborah Lang (who spoke at the event) and Brian May amongst many others, is now available online at http://www.act-now.info/Site1/War_Crimes_Appeal.html. Please read and sign it now!
Don’t forget to join the Global boycott of
GAP this Saturday May 28th 12.00 pm!
