JOIN THE CRICKET BOYCOTT THIS SATURDAY AT LORDS!
After the successful Cricket picket at Sri Lanka’s opening match of their tour of England see http://www.tamilnewsnetwork.com/2011/05/16/genocide-is-simply-not-cricket/ the Sri Lankan team look set to be followed by protesters throughout the UK. The Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO) ran a successful picket last Saturday at the first Test in Cardiff.
The second Test is taking place at Lords Cricket ground this Saturday (4th June). Demonstrators are to meet outside the Cricket Ground at St John’s Wood, London NW8 8QN at 10.00 am on the 4th June. The nearest tube station is a few minutes away at St. Johns Wood (Jubilee Line). BRING YOUR PLACARDS AND BANNERS!
GAP kept under pressure
The anti-GAP pickets were activated throughout the UK last Saturday from London (4 sites) to Bristol to Exeter (see attached pictures of London & Bristol). Thousands of leaflets were distributed outside GAP and Banana Republic (London) stores urging shoppers to check the label. If it says Sri Lanka put it back!
More people offered support than previously, no doubt due to the deeply embarrassing details (for companies that trade with Sri Lanka) of Sri Lankan human rights abuses both at the end of the War two years ago and even now. Apart from reducing GAP’s sales we are ‘converting’ consumers to our cause every time we turn up!
If you can run a picket outside London in the future please contact us urgently on info.actnow@gmail.com so that we can supply you with leaflets. Check out your nearest GAP store (see http://gap.eu/stores/).
Sign the Global Petition!
The petition to the UN Human Rights Council asking members to ask the Security Council to back an independent investigation on war crimes, launched at the Mullivaikal Remembrance on May 18th and supported by a number of celebrities such as international model Deborah Lang (who spoke at the event) and Brian May amongst many others, is now available online at http://www.act-now.info/Site1/War_Crimes_Appeal.html. Please read and sign it now!
Don’t forget to join the Cricket boycott at
Lords this Saturday June 4th from 10.00 am!
