"SELF DETERMINATION IS KEY TO THE WORLD PEACE"
Palith Kohona is to address the Asia Society in New York on 14.03.2011.
Let us pile some pressure, not sit down and take all what is thrown at us.
When will the world learn? I am refering to the platform you are providing to Dr. Palitha Kohona,
to address your gathering on 14 March. Haven’t we seen enough evidence of war crime, crimes
against humanity and Genocide of Tamils since 2009? This is like inviting Colonel Gadaffi’s son
to address your gathering about how well they are treating the opposition and to bring them into
a democratic process. I sincerely hope you will follow the steps of the Oxford Union in England
and cancel Dr. Kohona’s address as they did for President Rajapakse in December 2010.
It has been nearly 22 months since the war ended in Sri Lanka, but there are more than 146,679 people still unaccounted for. There is a face behind each number i.e. 146,679 (human lives).
This figure was issued by the Bishop of Mannar, in the North of Sri Lanka, in January 2011.
The Sri Lankan Government has not taken any action to locate the missing people. Many are in Detention Camps and Prisons, locked away without recourse to justice, and without their families being informed; several hundred more have been abducted and killed. The rest – we just don’t know.
The saddest part is that the international community has not questioned Sri Lanka over this unacceptable figure of 146,679 missing people.
Christians are being persecuted and the life of the Bishop is in danger too for speaking out on the atrocities committed by the Sri Lankan Government. Many priests have been murdered for speaking out in the past, and several churches have been bombed in an attempt to silence them. As Christians, we have a duty to speak out for the voiceless and to defend the vulnerable.
Isn’t this what "Love your neighbour" means?
Are you a good Samaritan and wanting to help find the truth behind the missing 146,679 people?
Please raise this issue with your heads or higher authorities so that we can get our British Government to ask the question of the Sri Lankan authorities, and to cut down the aid Britain gives to Sri Lanka, if there is no response. We can also ask the UN to investigate into these disappearances.
Please help us protect the Bishop and the remaining Tamil Community in Sri Lanka from extinction.
Remember the faces of 146,679 people! Please pray for the safety of these people especially as we
enter the holy season of Lent.
