"SELF DETERMINATION IS KEY TO THE WORLD PEACE"
After last years pickets we heard that GAP were considering pulling out of Sri Lanka? We have written to them and await a response.
Nevertheless we need to give them a ‘nudge’ in the right direction by relaunching our Global GAP pickets. On February we are organising our first pickets of 2011 and are asking all Tamils and lovers of justice & freedom to stand with us. We need to show GAP that we are serious about our belief in human rights and we will not accept businesses ‘turning a blind eye’ to injustice because it suits their profits.
For those of you in London we urge you to join us at:
The GAP ‘flagship’ stores in Oxford Street, Central London (meet 50 yds to the right of Exit 7 of Oxford Circus tube) at 12.00 noon next Saturday 19th February. We hope to cover both of these and even the Banana Republic’s store (now owned by GAP) in Regent Park but we need your help even if just for an hour.
We are looking for more helpers to join existing pickets or help organise new ones (http://gap.eu/stores/). Pickets can generate publicity for the cause. The local press will often print press releases. Why not take some pictures and produce a press release (we can help). For the pickets outside London please contact us urgently on info.actnow@gmail.com so that we can supply you with leaflets.
War Crimes & Referendums
Tim Martin recently confronted the UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon whilst the latter was speaking in Oxford. He questioned him as to when we will see a proper war crimes investigation and a referendum for the Tamil areas of Sri Lanka as recently took place in Sudan? see http://www.tamilnewsnetwork.com/2011/02/03/act-nows-tim-martin-confronts-ban-ki-moon/.
The answer was non-committal but we believe with a global PR push to the UN we might get a little closer to our demands. ACT NOW will soon be launching global petitions on War Crimes and later on a UN Supervised referendum. Watch this space!
