Medical Foundation for the care of victims of torture: Annual Report
[Tuesday, 21 December 2010 15:55] Human Rights Articles, NewsFollowing the government’s declaration of victory over the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) after more than 25 years of civil war, huge numbers of Tamil civilians were detained in government camps, many of them held secretly and without adequate food, shelter or water. A large number of refugees fleeing the violence were referred to the Medical Foundation, having been subjected to sexual assault and rape, being burnt, being whipped or beaten, and being suffocated.
