Global Tamil Women Forum (GTWF) has undertaken a humanitarian project to support the relief assistance of female-headed families who have been released from IDP camps in Sri Lanka and left destitute to fend for themselves and their families.

GTWF has pledged to support 128 female-headed IDP families who have been released from the camps with no provisions and no financial support from the government or from overseas, and are in dire need of help. This however is only a drop in the ocean with estimates that northern and eastern regions are home to some 89,000 war widows, but your support can help us to expand this project to help more families.

The role of the sponsor is purely on a humanitarian basis to provide financial assistance to enable the family to receive food, clothing, medicine and education. It is recommended that a sponsor continues to support the family for at least 12 months as a minimum or until they are self-sufficient.

The cost to sponsor a family is £30/$50 per month (£1/$1.66 per day – the equivalent of giving up half a cup of coffee). If you unable to commit on a monthly contribution, one-off donations are also welcome to assist the project.

GTWF will be coordinating this project through Global Tamil Forum (GTF)’s IDP project, facilitated through GTF country organisations. Funds will be channeled through a local NGO in North or East Sri Lanka. Sponsors will receive a receipt from GTF and also from the local NGO.
