We British Tamils will be embarking on a Charity Walk called "Heart2Heart" from Birmingham to London on 02nd November 2010 to raise funds firstly for the British Charity "Help for Heroes" and secondly for an Orphanage in Sri Lanka. Many of us have migrated to UK and enjoy freedom and prosperity, which was, and still is, denied to Tamils in Sri Lanka. Therefore we want to do something in return for the country we have now migrated to, and show our gratitude and thanks especially to those soldiers who fought bravely and sacrificed their lives for the Freedom that we enjoy today.

We chose the orphanage "Serendip Children’s Home" in Sri Lanka because children had no part in the ethnic conflict in that country, but yet were made victims. The month of November is a month to remember our Heroes and the day we begin our Charity Walk, 02nd November is "All Soul’s Day", when we pay tribute and remember our dead. We therefore want to contribute and be part of the great tradition of remembering and honouring our "War Hero" service men and women. It is for this reason that "Help for Heroes" was chosen by us as a beneficiary.

We hope this walk will encourage different communities to come together, putting aside any differences and barriers. This is the first of its kind, and we hope to undertake this walk every year, with more and more people getting involved. This 6-day walk is just the beginning to create awareness, and to remind our younger generation of the sacrifices made by many, so that we could enjoy liberty and freedom today in the UK.

Many other members of our community are walking and remembering the heroes in their own towns and villages all over the UK. There will be a pre-start event on 1st November, at 9:00 a.m. in Memorial Avenue, Worksop S80 2BW finishing at Nottingham County Council, West Bridgford NG2 7QP.

We have named the charity walk "Heart2Heart" because it is from our heart that we say thank you to our brave soldiers and to the British public.
