The second Global Boycott* weekend will take place this Saturday/Sunday (6/7th February). Act Now teams will continue their pickets of M&S (they have not yet agreed to a meeting with us as we requested so we need to keep up the pressure).

The ‘Economic War’ is a key cornerstone of our strategy to force Sri Lanka back to the negotiating table. Part of that war is a Boycott of Sri Lankan products. Soon we hope to introduce some new techniques but in the meantime we must continue with the ‘Awareness’ phase of the campaign.

Act Now provided election observers at some polling stations at the recent Tamil Independence Referendum. UK Tamils of Sri Lankan descent were voting in a privately organised vote in favour or not of an independent Tamil state (as has already occurred in other countries). Over 99% of over 64,000 voters voted YES at the weekend. AN was featured in some media reports see http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/feb/01/british-tamil-state-sri-lanka & http://www.tamilnet.com/art.html?catid=13&artid=31122
