GLOBAL PEACE SUPPORT GROUP – UK, overwhelmingly support the initiatives by the Permanent People’s Tribunal ( successor to the Bertrand Russell Tribunal) who will be conducting a People’s Tribunal on the War in Sri Lanka and its aftermath in Dublin in January 2010.

This Tribunal will investigate allegations that the Government of Sri Lanka and its armed forces committed WAR CRIMES and CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY during and after the final phase of its brutal war with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam

The Tribunal will also examine the Local and International factors that led to the collapse of the 2002 Ceasefire Agreement.

Organisers: The Irish Forum for Peace in Sri Lanka

Venue: Trinity College Dublin

The People’s Tribunal on Sri Lanka will be open to observers during the following hours (these times are subject to change depending on time-keeping on the day):

Thursday January 14th – from 4pm to 6pm

Friday January 15th – from 9am to 1pm and from 4pm to 5pm

Sessions outside of these hours will be held ‘in camara’ to protect the identity of a number of witnesses.

  • The venue is of average size so places are strictly limited.
  • Please confirm by Sunday January 10th if you wish to attend on Thursday or Friday or on both days.
  • Your name will be registered and you will be required to present some form of photo ID. Thank you.

The Tribunal will take place in the Arts building at Trinity College Dublin. The Arts building is beside the Nassau Street entrance to the college. See a college campus map at http://www.tcd.ie/Maps/

There will be Tribunal personnel with badges (‘People’s Tribunal on Sri Lanka’) inside the main door of the Arts building to direct you to the venue.

All are welcome to attend the public event on Saturday January 16th at 2pm in the J.M. Synge Theatre at Trinity College.

If you are travelling from outside Ireland, be aware that we are experiencing very cold weather this week (as in many countries!) with snow and icy roads & walkways. Regrettably, this weather is expected to continue next week. We suggest you bring warm clothes and good shoes!
